چکیده

We report on the use of a kinetic-inductance traveling-wave parametric amplifier (KITWPA) as first in readout chain microwave superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) multiplexer (umux). This umux is designed to multiplex signals from arrays low temperature detectors such transition-edge sensor microcalorimeters. When modulated with periodic flux-ramp linearize SQUID response, flux noise improves, average, $1.6$ $\mu\Phi_0/\sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}$ KITWPA off, $0.77$ on. statically biasing maximally flux-sensitive point, drops $0.45$ $0.2$ $\mu\Phi_0/\sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}$. validate this new scheme by coupling microcalorimeter and detecting background radiation. The combination provides variety capabilities including improved detector sensitivity more efficient bandwidth utilization.

A readout for large arrays of microwave kinetic inductance detectors.

Microwave kinetic inductance detectors (MKIDs) are superconducting detectors capable of counting single photons and measuring their energy in the UV, optical, and near-IR. MKIDs feature intrinsic frequency domain multiplexing (FDM) at microwave frequencies, allowing the construction and readout of large arrays. Due to the microwave FDM, MKIDs do not require the complex cryogenic multiplexing el...

Quantum wideband traveling-wave analysis of a degenerate parametric amplifier

We develop a wideband traveling-wave formalism for analyzing quantum mechanically a degenerate parametric amplifier. The formalism is based on spatial differential equations-spatial Langevin equations-that propagate temporal Fourier components of the field operators through the nonlinear medium. In addition to the parametric nonlinearity, the Langevin equations include absorption and associated...

A near-quantum-limited Josephson traveling-wave parametric amplifier.

Detecting single-photon level signals—carriers of both classical and quantum information—is particularly challenging for low-energy microwave frequency excitations. Here we introduce a superconducting amplifier based on a Josephson junction transmission line. Unlike current standing-wave parametric amplifiers, this traveling wave architecture robustly achieves high gain over a bandwidth of seve...

Gyro-Traveling Wave Amplifier

The theory, design and experimental results of a wideband 140 GHz, 1 kW pulsed gyro-traveling wave amplifier are presented. The gyro-TWA operates in the HE(0,6) mode of an overmoded quasi-optical waveguide using a gyrating electron beam. The electromagnetic theory, interaction theory, design processes and experimental procedures are described in detail. At 37.7 kV and 2.7 A beam current, the ex...
